On January 13, 2017, London trio The xx released their highly-anticipated third album I See You via Young Turks. The album’s widespread critical acclaim has been matched this week by global chart success, with I See You debuting at number 1 in seven countries including The U.K., Germany, Portugal, The Netherlands, Ireland, Australia and Belgium. I See You was also the best selling album in the U.S. and Canada last week and currently sits at number 2 in the Billboard consumption chart.
Overall, I See You is The xx’s biggest worldwide chart success to date. It follows in the footsteps of the band’s previous two albums—2009’s xx and 2012’s Coexistwhich have now sold over 3 million copies between them.
“The xx have never been so unguarded, either emotionally or in their musical ambitions.
The result is as haunting as ever.”—Rolling Stone
I See You is a leap forward on every front”—Q Magazine
“A triumphant return… The most colourful and pop-focused music the band has ever made – without sacrificing the precision and poignancy that makes them distinct”—Metro
“A cohesive mix of devastating vulnerability and quiet strength built on the British trio’s blend of floating synths and delicate guitars.”—ELLE
“‘I See You’ is not simply an album then, but a moment of realisation. The moment where The xx stop glancing shyly at their reflection and confront themselves in the mirror. What they discover is infectious”—NME
“I See You…sounds like an attempt to incorporate everyone’s talents into a new version of their sound, one true to their roots but richer and more varied.”—Pitchfork
“On its ambitious new album, the xx has created a vital, magnetic blend of
electronica, balladry and pop.”—Wall Street Journal
“One of the most compelling acts around”—Uncut
“That flourishing of ambition is heartening to witness here in the form of some of the band’s most impressive, persuasive songs yet”—Loud & Quiet
Meanwhile, The xx will soon embark on an extensive European and North American tour. The tour, which starts on February 8 in Stockholm, which will feature some of their biggest headline shows to date, including a record breaking seven night sold out run at London’s legendary O2 Academy Brixton (where they will play to 35,000 people).
